I don’t go into rant mode often, but some things matter enough that I will. “Don’t go to the desert without water” is one. “Don’t break the children” is another. This is a third.

I bitch about my country a lot, (mostly in private, but trust me it’s there), because we get a lot wrong, but when it comes down to it I am a United States citizen. Voting is a right. It is also a duty and an honor. I vote because it matters. Not just how I vote, but WHETHER.
Over the weekend, there was an election in Venezuela. Observers and officials are calling it a *failure* because only 32% of eligible voters turned out. 32%. In the US, 32% isn’t a failure, it’s damn near a *miracle.*
And that’s our problem. The lunatic fringe shows up and the sane majority stays home. Until that changes we stay scrod.
